(1779-1845) Стори, ДжозефЮрист, государственный деятель. В 1801 принят в коллегию адвокатов Массачусетса, неоднократно избирался в законодательное собрание штата. В 1808-09 - член Палаты представителей [ House of Representatives]. Считался одним из наиболее глубоких знатоков американского права, благодаря чему привлек внимание Дж. Мэдисона [ Madison, James], который предложил молодому конгрессмену стать членом Верховного суда [ Supreme Court, U.S.]. В 1811-45 - член Верховного суда [ Associate Justice of the Supreme Court]. С 1829 одновременно был профессором Гарвардского университета [ Harvard University]. Помог Дж. Маршаллу [ Marshall, John] добиться права Суда на вынесение судебных ограничений [ judicial review] и в других решениях суда, позднее часто расходился во мнениях с Р. Тейни [ Taney, Roger Brooke]. Придерживался теории широкого толкования конституции [ loose construction].
